Import video from mini-DV into Windows 7?
I just got Windows 7 and now I’m trying to import video from my Panasonic (PV-GS250) mini-DV camera. I have a cord that connects via the USB port, but my computer won’t recognize my camera. I looked… And my computer doesn’t have a firewire port.
Do I absolutely need to use the firewire port? Is there some sort of adapter I can use?

No you don’t need a firewire card in your computer, if you want poor quality video then you can get Firewire to USB converters, but they give very poor results and for the cost they are not worth it.
A firewire card (EIRE1394) will give the best results, they are not expensive, and very simple to fit, including beer/coffee about 15 minutes.
Once the card is installed then windows will pick up everything, (has its own drivers) connect the camcorder to the computer, via the new cable, and turn it to play/edit again windows will add the correct driver for your camera. Open you editing software and go to capture, your camera will be listed (if you have a webcam it may be listed as well, so you may need to select the camera) and off you go
